The winner, Mike Kosowski, was a first responder to the 9/11 attacks and was helping survivors escape the south tower of the World Trade Center when that tower collapsed. He was thrown 10 feet in the air and suffered injuries and burns to his back and neck. The injuries forced his retirement; he credit s his detective experience with helping him win the big prize.
Kosowski also understood a basic truth about playing with a pro: it’s different than a pickup game at a casino.
The Fox network airs the Million Dollar Challenge, but the show is sponsored by Pokerstars.net. Players qualify by playing in a free twice-daily qualifier on the site. Those who finish in the top 10 are considered for the casting call and submit a short video making a case for why they should be on the Fox program.
